Organizations and Orders

Knights of the Holy Shielding

Symbol: Silver falcon on a white shield
Align: LG
This order of knights appeared 200 years ago in the city of Warrick in the province of Ahrdin. They were formed by Duke Báothan the Beleaguered in the war he fought against the hordes of beasts that beset his territory. From that day to this these knights have maintained the highest standards of conduct of any in the Empire. Current membership in this organizations is thought to be under twenty as each member must set a faultless example of honor, courage, and purity of spirit. They are sworn to defend the helpless and innocent at all costs. The word of a Knight of the Holy Shielding was even taken over the word of Count Juel in a high court on the matter of treason in the year 987, such is the faith placed in these individuals.

Knights of Kahlom

The Knights of Kahlom are Duke Hanrick's personal troops. They are the finest heavy cavalry in the Empire and have never been defeated in battle. Many a soldier has fled when faced with the thundering charge of this elite unit. They number over 300 with about fifty commanders. Their equipment is the finest available; their steeds are brave, loyal, and exceedingly well trained; and the men are bold, skilled, and disciplined. Approximately eighty individuals are known to belong to the Knights and many are known to possess unusual talents.

Order of Densran

Symbol: Red rose
Align: CG
Lord Densran of Leaberry was known to be a generous and peaceful man that never turned away the hungry, sick, or injured. He lived deep in the wilderness of Strandeng but was sought out by the suffering and later by those who hated him for his concern. It is thought that Densran himself saved the township of Houyant from the then recently appeared Black Riders. The Riders are blamed for the death of Densran when his home was consumed by crimson flames. It is not known whether he was in his home at the time as no remains were found but he has never been seen since. A lush growth of red roses now grows over the former site of his home and his followers have chosen this as their symbol as they anonymously spread goodwill throughout the land.

Brotherhood of Hestatien

Symbol: Mailed fist
Align: LE
This society is of the belief that humans are the children of The Dead God and that all non-humans are to be blamed for his destruction. They are the hated enemies of the Confederacy of the Beast.

Black Riders

Society of Charon

Symbol: Unknown as of this printing
Align: NE (?)
There is only one known mentioning of this organization. In Fhendrek's Nether Congruences and Prime Conduits he writes, "In my extensive research into Otherworldly influences I came across a small group who claimed that they were emissaries of the Boatman of Hades himself. So startled was I by this revelation that I did not notice the grey blades they carried until it was almost too late. Luckily I escaped with a small vial of the water I found them poling across deep in the Garacian Caverns. I will report my findings in a more suitable forum." No other words were ever heard from Fhendrek and there remains no clues as to the truth or falsehood of his claims.

Mages of Thessel

Symbol: Grey cloak with red trim
Align: N (?)
This strange group of mages has opened small facilities in some ten locations around the Empire. They are the only known organized group of mages but little is known of them and they seem to prefer this situation. The services they offer include attempted identification of magical items and sale of some scrolls. They also purchase items on occasion. They will not divulge the entrance requirements of their organization and once admitted none has spoken of the qualities needed. Their goals are unknown.
