Magicians and Wizards

Goriien

Little known dabbler in "new and unique life forms". He is thought to be a powerful mage that supplements his earnings by accepting contracts with the wealthy socialites of his adopted home, the Impirial Capital. Generally a good natured wizard that takes this commercialism of his hard won position well. There is little speculation as to the cause of his need of cash.

Iltren

Iltren of the Carnelian Dominance. This powerful wizard is supposedly in a tall imposing tower secreted in the mountains of southern Lessarnia. He was a vital part of the force which overthrew the priests of Ecgror in their bid for their own territory in southwestern Mitric about seventy-five years ago. At that time a great battle was fought outside the town of Lealville. Ghastly rites were being perpetrated upon the inhabitants of this region when Iltren and his friends arrived. They fought a terrible battle in which the high priest of Celestian, Holohon, and the warrior Desh of Lessarnia were slain. Luckily though the battle was won by Iltren who is said to have split the skies and brought death hurtling down upon the wicked clerics of The Reaper! The tired township of Lealville then proclaimed that no magic of any sort would be allowed to exist within its boundaries and told the great wizard to depart. Bewildered and saddened, Iltren vanished from the city. Only recently has Iltren been again seen moving about the Empire. It is thought that our Glorious Emperor roused him from near death to help defend the Empire against any who threaten it.

Iggwilv

Mistress of Maleficence. A little more than a century ago the Arch-mage Iggwilv sent her evil minions to conquer the lands around her abode. So successful was she that all of Borune and northern Mitric were subjugated for a decade, and great indeed was the loot brought to Iggwilv's lair in answer to her insatiable desire for treasure. Legend states that the arch-mage gained much of her prowess from discovering the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, wherein was hidden magic of unsurpassed might. It is certain that Iggwilv ruled her domain from these caverns. There she also conducted arcane experiments and rituals, trying to further increase her powers. She is said to have freed a demon prince whom she had forced into servitude during one of these experiments and it cannot be doubted that this is how she met her end. The fortresses of Mitrik and Verbobonc were able to withstand the onslaught of her hordes for the ten long years of her war of conquest but Borune did not fare as well. Many think that the fortification of this province during the last century is so that no such defeat will ever again be suffered.

Mage of the Unending Valley

No name is known for this mysterious figure. He/She has existed in legends for more than 300 years and perhaps even to the time before the forging of the Empire itself. The Valley Mage is thought to inhabit an area within the Djarmasian Peaks on the far eastern border of the Empire. It is said that the Valley was one of the few places in this part of the world that was safe from Iggwilv's armies. Elves and some gnomes are known to live in this region of the mountains but it is not known what influence the Mage has over these groups.

Vulmeas

Lord of Fivespires. This exceptionally powerful arch-mage all but conquered the province of Mitric were it not for the might of or Emperor. In 1020 Vulmeas attacked Mitric with a huge army of scaly, lizard-like, brutes that slaughtered thousands of Mitric's soldiers. The bravery of the Imperial Legions and the intelligence and uncanny foresight of our Emperor quickly defeated this mad wizard and he has not been heard from again since this encounter.
